About The Event
"Martial artists, self defence clubs, combatives practitioners and instructors, how good is your knowledge on self defence and the law?
Just read it from the internet and now think you know it?.....
If you think it's just about reasonable and necessary, you're in for a rude awakening indeed.
It not just an assault charge you could be looking at.
There are proportionality issues, offences under the public order act, offences against the person, offensive weapons legislation, drunkenness, breach of the peace, etc, etc, I could go on.
When does your defence become a revenge attack?
How do you deal with witness accounts that differ from your own version of events?
What about CCTV?
How much force can you use?
Have you had your actions called into account and put under scrutiny?
Have you been interviewed by the police who are trained to do so, not just a couple of questions from your mates?
Have you ever faced a probing barrister in court (an event I guarantee that you will never forget!)?
Do you train in any of this?
I mean really train it, not just play it lip service.
Scenarios, mock interviews, mock court appearances?
Is it part of your syllabus?
Do you get experts in who know about this subject to teach your students?
If not, why not?
The best people in the industry do!
Teaching them to defend themselves is commendable, but don't get them a prison sentence for doing so......."
- D Andrews
